Barcroft PREVENTING SUICIDES IN YOUNG PEOPLE

This is a two evening training course in suicide awareness and prevention skills for a maximum of 30 participants. This course is aimed at people in contact with young people: teachers, youth workers, community workers, parents, grandparents and young people themselves. Participants will learn:

  • A better knowledge and understanding of the issue of suicide.
  • The issues affecting our young people, which may increase their risk of suicide: bullying, drugs and alcohol, family problems, exam stress, etc.
  • simple steps to follow to prevent suicides:
  • Warning signs to look out for in young people.
  • How to communicate with a young person at risk of suicide.
  • How to link them to the help which is available in order to keep them safe.
  • The importance of maintaining their own positive mental health.

After attending this course you have the opportunity to gain an accredited qualification through OCN should you wish to do so.  "Preventing suicides in Young People" is accredited with OCN at Level 2 with a value of 1 credits.  If you chose to complete this qualification you will need to fill in a workbook in your own time and submit this to PIPS Belfast by post.   

A two day course to give you the skills to:

  • Identify the warning signs that a young person may be at risk;
  • Know how to communicate safely with that young person;
  • Know how to link them into the help they need;
  • After the course you will have the opportunity to gain an OCN Level 2 qualification (@ £25 per person)
