Newcastle AC donation to PIPS Hope and Support

Newcastle & District Athletics Club were delighted to present PIPS Hope and Support with a donation of £1,000 at the club's AGM on Thursday 24th January. Club Chairman, Deon McNeilly spoke of his delight at handing over the much-needed funds

"PIPS Hope and Support was one of the charities identified by Newcastle AC for support by funds raised at the recent Castlewellan Christmas Cracker running event, supporting good causes that are of particular significance to club members is a priority, without the support of members like Ciarán Óg, it wouldn't be possible to stage events that are enjoyed by runners from all over Ireland and further afield."

Also presenting the cheque was club member Ciarán Óg Mussen who is familiar with the charity having fund-raised for PIPS Hope & Support by running Dublin Marathon in 2016.

"PIPS Hope & Support are a charity that I am very familiar with on a personal basis having fund-raised for them before, so I am delighted the club has decided to make this generous donation. My wife and I raised funds by running Dublin Marathon in 2016 on the 10th anniversary of my sister Roisin's death through suicide. PIPS Hope & Support offer help and support for all people who are struggling with things like depression and anxiety and to those affected by suicide. I feel people are becoming more aware and open about looking after their mental health and a big part of that is through the great work carried out by charities like PIPS Hope & Support."

Paddy Mageean, PIPS Hope and Support Fundraising Officer thanked Newcastle & District Athletics Club and everyone involved who supported the event. "We thank Deon, Ciaran Og and all at the Newcastle & District AC for selecting PIPS Hope & Support to be the beneficiary of the 'Christmas Cracker' event which raised an amazing £1000.  We are grateful to everyone who attended, sponsored or donated to the event showing their support to PIPS Hope and Support."

Paddy continued by saying "All funds raised for PIPS Hope & Support are spent locally to help and support people with issues affecting their quality of life and provides education programmes to people on how they can help reduce the risk of suicide in our greater community."
