World Suicide Prevention Day is held on September 10th each year as an initiative of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), and is co-sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Gerry Coyle and Seamus McCabe.  Gerry will be climbing Kilimanjaro for PIPS

Climbing Kilimanjaro

Gerry Coyle from Dromalane (pictured left) with Seamus McCabe of PIPS Newry and Mourne. In September 2009 Gerry will set about the challenge of climbing the worlds highest free standing mountaion in aid of PIPS Newry & Mourne.

When Gerry reaches the summit  he will place the banner of PIPS Newry & Mourne in the ground as a signal of his achievement and to raise awareness of the issues effecting suicide.  

Gerry  has currently had a number of fundraising events to help raise funds for the project. Whilst Gerald O Hare from Parker Green (The Quays), has also provided monetary support and assistance to help Gerry in his challenge.

Sean Og Brady Charity Night and Sky Diving Event

Skydiving Event & Charity Night

A number of people will be taking part in a sky dive event in memory of Sean Og Brady. Beofre this event takes place and to raise money and awareness of the event in aid of PIPS Newry and Mourne they recently held a fundraising night complete with entertainment in Pearse Ogs Club.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Participants in cross border event between PIPS and SOSAD

Cross Border Event

PIPS Newry and Mourne and SOSAD (Save Our Sons And Daughters) Ireland a Drogeda, Co Louth, Republic of Ireland based charity recently held a cross border event to raise awareness of Suicide.

The event took place on 6 - 7 June 2009 with a reception held in PIPS Newry & Mourne House.

Last years Lord Mayor Coleman Burns was in attendance to welcome all the participants to Newry and also to see them off on the sunday morning.

PIPS Newry & Mourne would also like to thank the Slieve Gullion Wheelers who completed the cycle event along with other cyclists from the Newry & Mourne area.

 

Princes Trust (Newry)

Newry Princes Trust Group recently helped to decorate the PIPS Newry & Mourne House, 22 Kilmorey Street, Newry.

They painted the Office, Counselling Rooms and Complimentary Therapy Room. 

The volunteers also took part in a Fundraising Bag Pack for PIPS Newry & Mourne in Sainsburys, The Quays, Newry. Sainsburys have nominated PIPS Newry and Mourne as their Official Charity for 2009.
