About PIPS Newry and Mourne
Background
P.I.P.S. Newry & Mourne was formed in 2003 by people who had personal experience of suicide in their family. The groups aims are to create greater awareness of the problem of suicide and self-harm, and to offer people bereaved through suicide the chance to be themselves among friends who understand.
P.I.P.S. (Newry & Mourne) relies entirely on voluntary donations to continue its vital work in key areas of:
- Research into prevention of Suicide and Self Harm
- Information for the public to create greater awareness and reduce the stigma associated with Suicide and Self Harm
- Befriending and supporting families who have been affected by Suicide
Suicide is now a Public Health Issue, Its everyone’s problem.
Ireland has the highest rate of suicide per capita in Europe.
In 2006 ‘291’ people in Northern Ireland took their own lives a rise of 37%.
